Styling your shelving can be tricky to get just right!
Let us break it down and show you how to slay your #shelfie
MAKE IT MAKE SENSE
Use items that make sense to the space. A shelf display doesn't always have to be purely decorative! Your practical items can be thoughtfully displayed as well. If you are styling shelving in a kitchen for example, add accessories that you would actually use in the kitchen. Try layering bowls, mugs, plates to fill your shelves. Touches of greenery will add colour and variety as well!
CONSIDER THE VISUAL WEIGHT
Visual weight is a term used to describe the balance and visual impact of a composition.
Try to be sure that the visual weight is evenly distributed throughout the shelves. Consider stacking for height and layering high, medium and low pieces. As your are styling your shelf, don't be afraid to move things around and stand back to see how it is coming together.
LAYER YOUR TEXTURES
Creating interest and depth to your design is important. Using a variety of materials and textures that play well together will add variety and interest to your design. We like layering a transparent material with opaque, and contrasting sleek and handmade looking pieces to help achieve that depth along with natural materials and items like books. Variety is the best way to please the eye and keep it moving through your display.
And don't forget we're here to help!
