Colours of the Year 2023- Comparing Benjamin Moore & Sherwin Williams

Here at LJ Design co., we typically recommend Benjamin Moore or Sherwin Williams for paint selections. Every year both companies put together their selections of what they believe the colour trends for 2023 will be. We thought it would be fun to compare both companies and their similarities and differences.

Benjamin Moore

Benjamin Moore's 2023 Colour of the Year is called 2008-30 Raspberry Blush. The trending pallet for this year is inspired by the bold strokes of modern art and the natural changes that occur in metal over time. This year’s trends are a change from the white on white that has been popular in the past few years. While this colour is bold, there are ways to use this colour in a way that won’t feel overpowering in your home. The rest of the pallet has lots of deep rich tones that make a statement. While they are bold, there are elements of these colours that are natural and occur in nature. The deep brown with purple undertones of Wenge AF-180 grounds the pallet while Tofino Sunset CC-156, New Age 1444 and Cinnamon 2174-20 add a natural neutral element.

Sherwin Williams

The 2023 Colour of the Year from Sherwin Williams is called Redend Point SW9081. Their palette is much more toned down, earthy and natural. With burnt umber, blush and clay tones. You may notice that Toile Red SW0006 could appear on the same paint chip as Raspberry Bliss by Benjamin Moore. It’s just toned down deeper. A lot of these colours could appear on the same paint chip as the Benjamin Moore colours once you place them next to each other. Sherwin Williams took a more neutral approach but I can see the similarities in the tones.

What do you think of their predictions for colours of the year? Love it? Hate it? Let us know below. Here at LJ Design co, we can't wait to use some of these unsaturated earthy tones in our upcoming projects!
